Women of the Bible: Candace

Candace: All we know from the Bible about Candace is in this verse: Acts 8:27 He arose and went; and behold, there was a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship.

We aren’t told whether Candace was ruler of Ethiopia, or ruler under her husband, or even if she had a husband. But, since the eunuch was said to have “great authority,” and she was the queen, Candace must have had at least quite a bit of authority, and it seems possible that she was ruler of the Ethiopians.
