Sunspots 847

Things I have recently spotted that may be of interest to others*:

Christianity: Relevant reports that a majority of self-identified Christians under 40 think that Christ isn't the only way to salvation.

Environment: Gizmodo reports that, for the first time ever known, it rained in the heart of Greenland's ice sheet.

Gizmodo also reports that (surprise!) Texas isn't requiring big petroleum companies to follow practices that are supposed to be required, and would cut down on climate change effects.

Science: NPR reports that scientists have studied daddy long legs (harvestmen) quite thoroughly, and have actually produced a "daddy shortlegs" with shorter legs.

NPR also reports on why rape victims have difficulty remembering details of the crime.

Gizmodo reports on an experiment to find out how long bacteria can live without food. A long time.

The Scientist reports that baby bats babble, much like human babies do.

The graphic used in these posts is from NASA, hence, it is free to use like this.

Sunspots 554

Things I have recently spotted that may be of interest to someone else:

Christianity: (And the Arts) A fine essay, in Christianity Today, about pop culture, especially Mad Men (which, I confess, I have never seen.)

Another essay in Christianity Today, on how and why it's so easy to ignore poverty in others.

Relevant tells us that the future looks good, and why it does.

Ken Schenck on the Christian's view of war.

Education: National Public Radio reports that some pediatricians are questioning our handling of Attention Deficit Disorder.

Health: (And Economics) The New York Times on why drug companies concentrate on treating cancer, rather than preventing it.

NPR on normal aging and forgetting, versus dementia.

NPR on the relationship between sleep disorders and Alzheimer's.

Politics: The New York Times on the probable effects of a flat tax (such as has been suggested by some Presidential candidates).

Sunspots 476

Things I have recently spotted that may be of interest to someone else:
Christianity: The BioLogos Forum has a post on "Christ, Trinity, and Creation."

Computing: Relevant reports that Google is trying to discourage Internet pornography. I'm glad they are, but good luck with that.

Gizmo's Freeware has information on anti-ransomware tools for Android information appliances.

Wired discusses the new Amazon phone.

Humor: Columnist Leonard Pitts is getting older, and forgetting things.

Science: Space.com tells us about Ceres, a dwarf planet that may have quite a bit of water.

Sports: The ball used in this year's World Cup is not the same as the one used in 2010.

God doesn't know everything -- He forgets forgiven sin

God is omniscient -- He knows everything. But there is at least one limit. That Self-imposed limit is that God forgets forgiven sin.

I quote the evidence, using the World English Bible, which is in the public domain:

Isaiah 43:25 I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake;
and I will not remember your sins.

Micah 7:18 Who is a God like you, who pardons iniquity,
and passes over the disobedience of the remnant of his heritage?
He doesn’t retain his anger forever,
because he delights in loving kindness.
19 He will again have compassion on us.
He will tread our iniquities under foot;
and you will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

There are also pleas that God would forget past sins:
Psalm 25:7 Don’t remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions.
Remember me according to your loving kindness,
for your goodness’ sake, Yahweh.

Isaiah 64:9 Don’t be furious, Yahweh,
and don’t remember iniquity forever.
Look and see, we beg you,
we are all your people.
